Cherin Balt is the Managing Director of the multipurpose gamma irradiation facility in Cape Town, HEPRO, a member of the IIA as well as various other South African food technology and business organisations.
She has been involved in the irradiation industry since 1992 when she joined HEPRO Cape on completion of an MBA at the University of Cape Town. She has an honours degree in Genetics from the University of Pretoria.
Not only has HEPRO served the food industry in South Africa since 1986, the fruit industry showed an interest in the irradiation of fruit for phytosanitary purposes since 1996, which included tropical, pome, exotic fruits and citrus, projects in which Cherin was closely involved.
